Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that she rejected several lucrative offers, including some connected to politics, despite the possibility of becoming a billionaire.
The actress made the disclosure while speaking on an episode of the Afropolitan podcast, explaining that she chose to remain committed to her principles rather than accept opportunities that could compromise her values.
According to Jalade-Ekeinde, some of the offers she turned down were not necessarily wrong but could have affected the principles and values she represents.
“If I wanted to be a billionaire, I would have been one easily. Because I have been in situations where no one would have known and I would have taken things and compromised my stance. But I would turn it down and walk away. Many times. Even in politics,” she said.
The actress said she had repeatedly been presented with opportunities that could have earned her substantial amounts of money if she agreed to compromise her position.
“I am talking about many times where I could have compromised my stance and got paid handsomely for it. But I said, ‘No.’ Sometimes, they are not necessarily bad things. They are just things that would just rock your foundation or belief systems,” she explained.
Jalade-Ekeinde admitted that she sometimes felt tempted to accept such offers, particularly when they did not appear harmful on the surface.
However, she said she ultimately chose to walk away because of the potential long-term impact on her reputation and message.
“Sometimes, I am tempted to compromise because they don’t appear bad, but I would still walk away eventually. Because in the long run, it will dilute my message,” she said.
The actress added that whenever she turned down major financial opportunities because they conflicted with her principles, she often experienced what she described as a financial miracle afterwards.
Jalade-Ekeinde has remained a prominent figure in Nollywood and has also been involved in various social and advocacy initiatives outside the film industry.
