Adamawa Assembly appoints only female member as majority leader

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has appointed Hon. Kate Mamuno Raymond, the lawmaker representing Demsa constituency, as the new majority leader.

Raymond, who is of the governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, is the only female legislator in the 25-member Assembly.

Speaker Bathiya Wesley, who announced the appointment at the Assembly’s sitting on Monday, also pronounced the member representing Maiha constituency, Hon. Jingi Belel as Deputy Majority Leader; as well as Hon. Suleiman Alkali, member representing Yola North constituency, as Minority Leader.

Alkali is of the main opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Assembly, which consists of 16 PDP and nine APC members, had on 13th June elected the member representing Hong constituency, Wesley as Speaker; as well as Hon. Buba Mohammed Jijiwa of Jada Mbulo as Deputy Speaker.
