A former Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi will be the running of the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku for the 2027 general elections, the party has announced.

Amaechi, who was also Minister of Transportation, contested the presidential primary with Atiku, a former Vice President; along with pioneer Managing Director of the defunct FSB International Bank, Alhaji Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

The electoral committee declared Atiku the winner of the internal election, having polled 1,846,370 votes as against 504,117 votes by Amaechi and 177,120 votes.

Even before the votes were counted, Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen had protested against the process, while the former was on record as saying on TV interviews that he was not in the race to be running mate to any presidential candidate.

ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said on Monday that the decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives of all geopolitical zones.
