A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election by consensus.
The party, which has another wing chaired by former Senate President David Mark, also fielded the same candidate in the last presidential election four years ago. It polled 77,306 votes, winning in no state to place 10th in the race of 18 candidates.
ADC has been bedevilled with a series of litigations for the control of the party since its former National Chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu yielded the party to the Mark-led team with a former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.
Among the prominent presidential aspirants in the Mark faction are a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; and a former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.
The 2023 presidential candidates of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi; and his counterpart for the New Nigeria People’s Party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso left the ADC a few weeks ago for the National Democratic Congress.
