Major stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State have rebutted claims in certain quarters that one of the chairmanship aspirants, Mr. Mobolaji Sanusi has been endorsed as the party’s candidate for the council.
The local government election is scheduled for 12 July. APC has fixed next Saturday, 10 May 2025 for the election of chairman and councillorship candidate via direct primary system.
Sanusi is alleged to be the preferred candidate of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
In a statement on Saturday, the stakeholders, consisting of current and former party leaders, noted that at no time was such a decision taken to present Sanusi as the party’s choice.
The statement read: ‘We wish to unequivocally state that reports that Bolaji Sanusi has been endorsed as our party’s consensus candidate for Ojokoro LCDA is entirely false, misleading and holds no basis in the official position or procedure of the party
‘It is a calculated act by desperate elements seeking to distort the facts, misinform the public and undermine the peace and cohesion within our party structure in Ojokoro.
‘As publicly communicated through reputable news outlets, the APC leadership has laid out a transparent and structured process for the emergence of candidates across all LGAs (Local Government Areas) and LCDAs.
‘These guidelines are being strictly adhered to in Ojokoro LCDA. We make bold to declare that no individual has been endorsed or anointed outside the party’s democratic process’.
The stakeholders also frowned at attempts to associate the lawmaker representing Ifako Ijaye Federal Constituency, Hon. Benjamin Olabinjo Adeyemi to this move.
‘We strongly condemn the deliberate attempt to associate this falsehood with the name of our distinguished representative, Hon. Benjamin Olabinjo, who remains a symbol of responsible leadership and unity in Ojokoro LCDA and the entire Ifako-Ijaye Federal Constituency. His name must not be used to advance divisive or self-serving interests’, the statement added.
Affirming their loyalty to the APC and commitment to upholding internal democracy, the stakeholders urged members of the party to disregard this report of ‘the so-called endorsement’ in its entirety.
