Air Peace has suspended all flights to and from Benin Airport following the temporary closure of the airport’s runway after an Enugu Air aircraft veered off the runway while landing on Thursday.
The affected aircraft, an Embraer E170 operating Enugu Air Flight 4264 from Lagos to Benin, experienced a runway excursion after touchdown.
Enugu Air said all 63 passengers and five crew members were safely evacuated and that no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
The airline added that the aircraft had been secured and that the relevant aviation authorities had begun an investigation into the incident.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) also confirmed that it had opened an investigation and said a preliminary report would be released within 30 days.
In a statement, Air Peace said the suspension of its Benin operations was a temporary measure made necessary by circumstances beyond its control and appealed to affected passengers for their understanding.
The airline said it would resume services to Benin Airport once the runway is reopened and normal flight operations are restored.
