Akintunde emerges President, as NIJ Alumni Association elects national officers

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (NIJAA) has elected a new National Executive Council (NEC) through a virtual process between Thursday, 21 August and Friday, 22 August 2026.

The results were announced in the early hours of Sunday, 23 August 2026 by the NIJAA Electoral Committee, led by the Deputy Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Dr. Ola Adeboye, who is also an alumnus. The election was acknowledges as credible, transparent and peaceful.

The new leadership, led by the Publisher of Breezy News, Mr. Muyiwa Akintunde as National President, will serve a term of three years and is saddled with the responsibility of deepening alumni engagement, supporting NIJ, and advancing the practice of journalism and public relations in Nigeria.

Other officers elected are: Ms. Adesola Isabella (Vice President), Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji (General Secretary), Dr. Chika Nnamani (Assistant Secretary), Comrade Mark Akhuetie (National Publicity Secretary), Ms. Oluwapelumi Oluwayomi David (Organising Secretary) and Adegbemi Adewale Esq. (Legal Adviser)

In his acceptance remarks, Akintunde thanked members for their votes and confidence. He pledged an administration anchored on unity, accountability, professional growth, mentorship for NIJ students, and strategic partnerships with media and PR institutions.

‘NIJAA must be a platform for impact. We will harness the collective strength of our alumni to reposition our alma mater and contribute meaningfully to national discourse and media development’, he said.

The Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, and the Governing Council have congratulated the new executives and pledged the Institute’s support.

NIJAA calls on all alumni home and in the Diaspora to rally behind the new NEC as it embarks on programmes to strengthen the Association and give back to NIJ.
