The Anambra State Government has unveiled an electronic identification card scheme for civil servants and other government employees in the state.

During the unveiling at the state secretariat conference hall in Awka, the state capital, on Friday, the Head of Service, Theodora Igwegbe said the programme – described as “the first of its kind in Nigeria” – would enable the state government and citizens to identify civil servants and other government employees across the state.

Igwegbe, who represented the state Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, said the scheme was part of the administration’s agenda to digitalise all sectors of the state economy and identify ghost workers, latecomers, and strengthen transparency and accountability in the state workforce.

According to her, it would be powered by the Anambra State Information and Communication Technology Agency.

She said: “Through this digital system, Anambra State can establish a transparent framework that records interactions, transactions, and decision-making processes. This fosters a culture of accountability by deterring corrupt practices and ensuring that civil servants are held responsible for their actions”.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the the state ICT agency, Mr. Chukwuemeka Agbata said the scheme would improve public service delivery.

Meanwhile, Governor Soludo has asked communities to join hands with the state government to prevent erosion.

Soludo made the call on Friday during a town hall meeting on the erosion control and management with stakeholders drawn from five communities largely affected by gully erosion.

The meeting, tagged, ‘Delivering the solution mandate in erosion control’, was held at the Oko Civic Centre and the five communities in attendance were Nanka, Awgbu, Oko, Amaokpala, and Ekwulobia.
