Anthony Joshua in stable state, Ogun, Lagos govts say; sympathise with deceased’s families

The Ogun State Government and its Lagos State counterpart have sympathised with the families of those involved in the accident involving former two-time heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua on Monday at Makun, Ogun State.

In a statement by Lagos State Commissioner, Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso; and the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Information, Kayode Akinmade, the governments prayed that God would grant families of the two dead victims the strength to go through the difficult time.

‘Doctors have conducted several clinical assessments and have confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require any emergency interventions at this time’, the governments also said.

The statement further read: ‘The governments of Ogun and  Lagos States wish to confirm that Anthony Joshua the British-Nigerian two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion was involved in a road traffic accident earlier today along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

‘The vehicle conveying the team of 4, ran into a stationery truck resulting in two fatalities.

‘Anthony Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised facility in Lagos.

‘A comprehensive medical team has since been convened and will continue to monitor them closely.

‘Anthony Joshua has since been relating well with his family.

‘The governments of Ogun and Lagos are keenly monitoring the situation and will ensure that the two persons receive the best medical care.

‘We have also commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

‘We appreciate the public’s concern and ask for privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family during this time’.

Eyewitnesses report that the incident occurred along a busy highway of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway around past 11 am.

The vehicle carrying Joshua, a Lexus Jeep with the number plate, KRD 850 HN, reportedly collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still being investigated.
