Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State have expressed sadness over the decision of former Apex Leaders’ chairman, Elder Joju Fadairo, to retire from active partisan politics.
The delegation, led by the APC Chairman in Ifo Local Government, Barrister Olumide Oduwole, made this known during a courtesy and appreciation visit to Fadairo at his residence in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ibara, Abeokuta.
Oduwole described Fadairo as a mentor whose leadership had played a significant role in shaping the political careers of many party members.
“We were surprised and saddened when we learnt of your decision to withdraw from partisan politics,” Oduwole said. “Although we respect your decision, we felt it was important to visit and express our appreciation for your mentorship and service.”
He credited Fadairo’s leadership with the electoral successes recorded by the party in the local government, noting that the APC had not lost an election during his tenure as leader of the apex body.
“We have never lost an election under your leadership. That speaks volumes about your commitment and leadership qualities. While we will miss your active participation, we still look forward to benefiting from your advice and guidance,” he added.
Responding, Fadairo said his decision to step away from active politics was motivated by the need to rest, stressing that he harboured no ill feelings towards anyone.
The elder statesman thanked the delegation for the visit and assured them that, despite his retirement from partisan politics, he would continue to support and pray for the party’s leaders.
“I thank God for bringing all of us together,” Fadairo said. “Your visit is a great honour to me, and I pray that God will continue to honour you. Although I am old, I remain agile. I may have stepped back from active politics, but I remain with you in spirit.”
Among those on the visit were the Apex Secretary, Ogbeni Kolawole Isola; Chief Derin Adebiyi; the Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Hon. Idris Kusimo; former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Olakunle Oluomo; the APC House of Representatives candidate for Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, Hon.
