The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to receive more than 10,000 members of various political parties who are set to defect to the ruling party under the Maji Johnson Bello (MJB) Movement.
The prospective defectors are members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and other political parties.
Executive members of the MJB Movement visited the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday to engage with the party’s leadership ahead of the planned formal defection ceremony.
The movement also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the APC through extensive grassroots mobilisation.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, his Personal Private Secretary, Comrade Jibrin Bancir, described the decision by the MJB Movement and its members to join the party as a significant development.
Bancir said the move demonstrated growing confidence in the APC and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
He said the party was particularly encouraged by the organisational capacity, grassroots reach and political network that the MJB Movement would bring into the APC.
According to him, the ruling party remained open to Nigerians genuinely committed to the progress, stability and development of the country.
Bancir assured the incoming members that the APC would put appropriate mechanisms in place to ensure their smooth integration into the party’s structures.
He added that the new members would be encouraged to actively participate in the party’s activities at the ward, local government, state and national levels.
“Politics is local. We will ensure that everybody knows you in your local government as bona fide members of the APC.
“We want you to become part and parcel of the party at the ward, local government, state and national levels. Your contribution will be valued, and your political capacity will be put to good use,” Bancir said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the MJB Movement, Hon. Maji Bello, said the decision to join the APC was driven by the movement’s belief that the reforms being implemented by President Tinubu represented a realistic pathway towards addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Bello said members of the movement were convinced that the President’s reform agenda deserved the support of Nigerians seeking a stronger, more productive and prosperous country.
He added that the forthcoming defection would mark the beginning of a broader mobilisation exercise, with the movement planning to continue engaging Nigerians at the grassroots and encouraging them to support President Tinubu and the APC.
