Two men have been sentenced to death by an Abeokuta High Court, in Ogun State, for armed robbery. Another is to serve 21 years in prison for armed robbery and attempted murder
The convicts — Wahabi Idowu, Wale Adedeji and Akeem Sulaimon — were found guilty and convicted on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, attempted murder
The prosecution counsel, Mrs. Bolariwa Adebowale had earlier told the court that the convicts committed the offences on 29 October 2018 at about 12:30 am at No. 40 Mercy Road Safari Junction Onikolobo area in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Adebowale said that the convicts, while armed with knives and cutlass, entered into the house of Rasheed Fajimi and attempted to kill him. She said that they robbed the victim of Ford Jeep with Registration No. MUS 769FF.
The prosecution further said that the convict, however, carted away with the complainant clothes, shoes, four mobile phones, two Automated Machine (ATM) cards Jewelries, 32 inches plasma Television and cash sum of N64,000.
She explained further that the convicts also robbed one Miss Boluwatife Fajimi of her iPhone, 5x Nokia phone and wristwatches, explaining that the offences committed contravened Section 21(b) and 1(1)(a)(5) of the Prohibition of Forcible Entry Occupation of Landed Properties, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Cultism and Other Anti-violence and Related Offences Law 2016, as well as contravene section 324 and 320 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun 2006.
The trial judge, Justice Olugboyega Ogunfowora ruled that the court was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the accused persons committed the offences as charged and having found the accused persons guilty as charged, convicted the trio to 14 years each on Counts One and Two for conspiracy and armed robbery.
Ogunfowora, thereafter, gave Idowu 21 years on Counts Four and Five for conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder, while Adedeji and Sulaimon were sentenced to death by hanging and Idowu bagged 21 years imprisonment with hard labour.
