At 48, Baptist College of Theology reiterates commitment to raising impactful leaders

The Baptist College of Theology, Oyo (BCTO), which has just has celebrated its 48th anniversary, remains focused as a dynamic and vibrant theological institution, its Rector, Prof. Esther Ayandokun has said.

She said that BCTO’s vision is to provide theological and ministerial training that balances spiritual formation, academic excellence, and practical ministry.

Ayandokun said that the college, which is an affiliate of the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomosho, Oyo State, the reputable institution which has shaped spiritual leaders over the years, has strong focus on relevance to the African context, equipping students to serve effectively within the Baptist tradition and beyond.

She added that the institution aims to be a leading centre for contextualized biblical higher education within the African context.

According to her, some key aspects of focus that has differentiated the college included nurturing students’ commitment to Jesus Christ and their Christian discipleship; equipping students with a deep understanding of biblical truth, historical doctrinal themes, and theological issues, particularly as they apply to the African context; and training students in the theory and practice of biblical preaching, pastoral care, and counseling to equip them for effective service in the church and society.

Others are integrating Biblical, theological, historical, and practical studies with an evaluation of their relevance to African culture and life; and preparing students for responsible church membership, leadership, and service within the Nigerian Baptist Convention .

Ayandokun  said that the vision for the school was to train pastors who would meet the yearnings of hundreds of churches.

The College has the vision to equip God-called men and women spiritually and academically for the propagation of the gospel of Christ and centre; leadership of local churches, and reiterated the commitment of the college to raise impactful and worthy leaders.

She said that the college has also introduced courses that are beneficial to help students maintain balance in life and ministry; one of which is the Entrepreneurial Programme which educates and enlightens students on the relevance of entrepreneurial capabilities.

The institution said it has also developed a robust and dynamic curriculum to remain a versatile Institution. It recently introduced a course, Personality Branding and Public Relations for Pastors.

According to Ayandokun, the course is aimed at equipping the students with requisite skills to remain relevant in the Pastors’ Ministry .It also helps the students to gain first hand knowledge in public engagement.
