The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it would continue the collation of governorship election results from the local government areas in Bayelsa State from Noon on Monday.
The Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity INEC office, Yenagoa, the state capital, Mr. Wilfred Ifogah announced this to party agents, election observers and journalists at the state’s collation centre on Sunday.
The state Returning Officer, Prof. Kuta Farouq had earlier adjourned the exercise till 6 p.m. after the collation of results from the Ekeremor, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Nembe, Ogbia, Sagbama and Yenagoa Local Government Areas (LGAs).
Results from the remaining two LGs – Brass and Southern Ijaw – were being expected before the adjournment was announced.
From the result so far announced, Governor Duoye Diri, who is seeking re-election through his party, the Peoples Democratic Party is leading have garnered 114,737 votes, while his main rival, former Governor Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, has 65,058.
Sylva is from Brass LGA whose result is still being awaited.
