President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Alhaji Salihu Dembos as the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

In a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the appointment is for a tenure of three years in the first instance.

Until his appointment, Dembos was NTA’s Executive Director, Marketing.

His career as a media professional spans over 20 years, having served as General Manager of two NTA stations in Lokoja and Kano; and as Zonal Director, NTA, Kaduna, among others.

Dembos succeeds Alhaji Yakubu Ibn Mohammed who recently retired.

NTA is a Nigerian government-owned and partly commercial broadcast station, known at inauguration in 1977 as Nigerian Television following the takeover of regional television stations by military governmental authorities in 1976. Until the 1990s when television was liberalised, it enjoyed a monopoly on national television broadcasting.

NTA runs the largest television network in Nigeria with stations in several parts of the country.
