Chamber of Commerce partners Ogun govt to host fisheries exhibition

The Ogun State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA), in collaboration with the state government, has concluded arrangements for the fourth edition of Fisheries/Aquaculture trade fair. It is scheduled to be held from Monday 20th to Friday 24th November at M.K.O Abiola Trade Fair complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

At a press conference on Thursday at the venue, OGUNCCIMA President, Engr. Mike Akingbade said: “A fisheries / aquaculture fair is an exhibition designed for fish aquaculture farmers to showcase their products and/or services to create awareness and examine the market trends and available opportunities”.

Akingbade explained that this event would be utilised to introduce new concepts and enhance economic strategies in the fish industries.

He disclosed that the theme of the edition is ‘Sustaining Fisheries -Aquaculture Production Through Innovation and Diversification in Challenging Times’, adding that the fair will be open from 8 am to 6 pm daily.

Akingbade said: “This fair is designed for all related businesses in fish industries ranging from small scale businesses, medium-scale businesses, and multinationals- Absolutely for everyone. It is geared towards the improvement of the economic status of the people of Ogun state and its environs. It is fully endorsed by the Ogun State Government.

“The 2023 edition of the fair is being planned to surpass the record of the last edition in terms of participation of exhibitors and visitors. I sincerely hope that the discussions on the lecture day will have an impact on creation of employment.

“OGUNCCIMA is identifying with the Ogun State government in ‘building our future together’ through enhancement of productivity in fisheries/aquaculture development and encouragement of SMEs that would transform into economic buoyancy of the state.

“The fourth edition of OGUNCCIMA Fisheries/Aquaculture Fair 2023 will showcase various products and services of fish farmers, promote new businesses and it will promote our Made in Nigeria products, especially those made in Ogun State”.

The Director of Fisheries in the Ministry of Agriculture, Princess Ojelade noted that integrated farming is a diversification in these challenging times, and identified a number of benefits

“The farmer gets additional income out of which from growing vegetables on the pond embankment that normally lies fallow. I say categorically that these challenging times integrated fish aiming is the best diversification a panacea to food sustainability and food security”, she emphasised
