Jamilu Collins has paid an emotional tribute to former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey following his retirement from professional football.

Ramsey, who announced his decision on Tuesday, 7 April, brings the curtain down on a distinguished 19-year career. The Welshman began at Cardiff City before securing a move to Arsenal as a teenager in 2008, where he rose to prominence after loan spells at Nottingham Forest and a return stint at Cardiff.

During his time in North London, Ramsey became a key figure for the Gunners, making 369 appearances in all competitions, while contributing 64 goals and 60 assists.

On the international stage, the 35-year-old enjoyed a stellar career with Wales national football team, captaining the side to a historic semi-final finish at UEFA Euro 2016. He also played a pivotal role in helping Wales qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup—their first appearance at the global showpiece in 64 years.

Following his departure from Arsenal, Ramsey had spells with Juventus, Rangers, OGC Nice, Cardiff City, and Pumas UNAM. After leaving the Mexican side last October, he remained a free agent before officially calling time on his career this week.

Reacting to the announcement, Collins took to social media to celebrate his former teammate, with whom he shared a dressing room during Ramsey’s final stint at Cardiff City.

‘Happy retirement, Rambo. It was a pleasure playing alongside you. Respect always. Enjoy your next chapter—you’ve earned it’, Collins wrote on Instagram.

Collins, who left Cardiff City last year after a two-year spell, now plays for Erzgebirge Aue in the German third division. The 31-year-old defender is also an experienced international, having earned 30 caps for the Super Eagles, although he has not featured for Nigeria since March 2024.
