As part of activities marking National Privacy Week (NPW) 2026, The Rainbow Strategy, an innovative public affairs and strategic communication firm and a Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) – licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisation (DPCO), has announced its decision to partner with the NDPC to promote data protection and privacy awareness among secondary school students in Nigeria.

The initiative is in line with the statutory mandate of the NDPC under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023, which recognises privacy as a fundamental right under the Nigerian Constitution and places strong emphasis on empowering data subjects especially children and young people with the knowledge and skills required to safely navigate an increasingly digital society.

Under the NDPC Adopt-A-School Initiative, The Rainbow Strategy has formally adopted Government Secondary School, Afikpo, Ebonyi State, as part of a nationwide programme aimed at building a privacy-conscious and digitally responsible generation.

The awareness engagement will take place on Thursday, 29 January 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the Assembly Hall, Government Secondary School, Afikpo.

According to the firm, the programme will deliver age-appropriate, interactive sensitisation sessions covering:

Basic concepts of personal data and privacy;

Safe and responsible use of digital platforms and social media;

Risks associated with data misuse, online exposure, and cyber threats; and

An introduction to privacy rights and responsibilities under the NDPA 2023.

The Founder and Chief Strategist of The Rainbow Strategy, Franklyn Ginger-Eke, PhD, fnipr, FIIM, described the initiative as both a professional obligation and a personal commitment. Dr. Ginger-Eke, an alumnus of Government Secondary School, Afikpo (GSSA), noted that empowering young people with privacy awareness is critical to safeguarding their dignity, safety, and future opportunities in the digital age.

‘Privacy is no longer an abstract legal concept, it is a daily lived experience for young people. By taking data protection education directly into secondary schools, we are helping students understand that their data belongs to them and that protecting it is both a right and a responsibility’, he said.

The Rainbow Strategy emphasised that the programme is being delivered, in line with NDPC guidelines, and reflects a broader commitment to community-based civic education, responsible digital citizenship, and institutional trust-building.

The firm commended the leadership of the National Data Protection Commission for advancing the National Privacy Week platform and called on stakeholders educators, parents, and policymakers to continue supporting initiatives that protect young Nigerians in the digital ecosystem.
