A corps member serving in Ede North LGA of Osun, Mr Enitan Pelumi has built and donated a borehole to Abere Community as his Community Development Service (CDS).
In a speech at the project inauguration on Monday, Pelumi, with Reg. No. OS/25A/2397, 2025 Batch A Stream II, said that the project was intended to address the persistent water scarcity faced by the community.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Abere Ede Community, Mr Alabi Adesoji, described the initiative as impactful, saying that access to potable water was a major concern to the community.
Adesoji said the project would significantly reduce the burden of sourcing water and improve hygiene and general wellbeing of the residents.
He urged serving corps members and those waiting for posting to emulate Pelumi’s gesture by contributing positively to their host communities.
‘We assure Pelumi that this project will be jealously protected even after he has left Osun.
‘It is a collective asset for our people’, Adesoji said.
Earlier, the Osun NYSC Coordinator, Mr Ita Kubiangha, described the intervention as a transformative initiative for Abere residents, who would benefit from the project.
Kubiangha said that CDS remained one of the cardinal programmes of the scheme and urged corps members to always identify genuine needs in their host communities and respond appropriately.
He also encouraged them to make meaningful impacts by understanding the needs of their host communities and contributing to their development.
‘Pelumi has demonstrated what the scheme stands for by identifying a pressing need of his host community and ensuring it was addressed.
‘I want to commend the stakeholders for supporting him and assure the community that more impactful projects will be witnessed as long as corps members are posted to the area’, Kubiangha said.
He also said that the headquarters of the NYSC Directorate had sent an officer to inspect the project, describing Pelumi as ‘exemplary among his peers’.
In his remarks, the Traditional Ruler of Abere, Oba Adefemi Adelakin, commended the corps member for taking ‘remarkable steps’ to address the community’s critical challenge.
Adelakin said the landlords’ association and entire community appreciated the gesture and prayed for Pelumi’s success in his future endeavours.
He urged other corps members to ensure their presence was positively felt in their host communities during their service.
