A Borno State High Court has sentenced a man, Danladi Mohammed to one-year imprisonment after convicting him of fraud.

In a statement on Friday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said that Mohammed was jailed following his conviction on one count of criminal misappropriation of N7.6 million.

He converted proceeds of 8,000 pieces of camping lanterns, which he claimed were to be supplied to a United Nations agency.

The defendant pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned last 25th April, and the matter went to trial.

In the course of the trial, the prosecuting counsel, S. O. Saka presented three witnesses and tendered several documents, which were admitted in evidence as exhibits.

Justice Umaru Fadawu, in his judgement, convicted the defendant as charged and sentenced him to one-year imprisonment with an option of N200,000 fine.

The judge also ordered the convict to pay N7.6 million to the nominal complainant, failing which the court said he would serve a five-year prison term.
