The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of posing as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday following an application by the Federal Government, which informed the court that Adeyemi would be transferred to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for fresh arraignment.

At the proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, moved the application seeking to terminate the case.

Oyedepo told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed Adeyemi’s case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police, identifying some loopholes.

He argued that the alleged forgery offences involving documents used by Adeyemi while operating the purported agency fell within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

The DPPF added that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court and that Adeyemi would be arraigned there without delay.

He urged the judge to strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law.

Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application. Justice Umar subsequently struck out the charge.

Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 alongside two other defendants on charges bordering on conspiracy and forgery.

The two other defendants, whose whereabouts remain unknown, were identified as Femi, whose surname was not provided, and Anu, also identified without a surname.

The Federal Government’s decision to discontinue the proceedings at the Federal High Court is intended to pave the way for Adeyemi’s fresh arraignment before the FCT High Court.
