The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has rearrested an 83-year-old woman, Uloma Uchechi Sunday, for alleged drug trafficking in Abia State, less than a year after she was convicted of a similar offence.
The woman was arrested last Wednesday at her residence in Ite-Uzo, Umuaguma, Obingwa Local Government Area of the state.
According to the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, operatives allegedly recovered quantities of methamphetamine and Colorado, a synthetic cannabinoid, concealed around her waist with a wrapper.
Babafemi said the arrest followed intelligence reports indicating that the suspect operated a drug joint allegedly patronised by criminals terrorising the community.
The agency disclosed that Uloma had previously been arrested on May 17, 2025, alongside her 32-year-old daughter, Chisom Uchechi, at the same residence.
During the earlier operation, NDLEA operatives reportedly recovered 50 grammes of methamphetamine, 522 grammes of skunk, 260 grammes of fresh cannabis leaves and 12 grammes of Tramadol.
The agency said both women pleaded guilty and were sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, with an option of a ₦200,000 fine each. They reportedly paid the fines and were subsequently released.
However, the NDLEA alleged that Uloma returned to drug trafficking after her release and established another drug joint where she accommodated individuals described by the agency as dangerous.
The latest arrest forms part of the agency’s efforts to curb drug trafficking and the distribution of illicit substances in communities across the country.
