The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has mourned the demise of a former Customary Court Judge, Chief Sunday Stephen Rone.
Aged 86, Chief Rone died on Monday.
He was the Obazuaye of Warri Kingdom and the oldest serving chief in Warri Kingdom, Delta State.
The Delta Central Senator, who is also the Delta State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, said that the state has lost a “legal luminary who bestrode the heights of his chosen profession like a colossus and cast his shadow far beyond the confines of the state”.
Omo-Agege condoled with the immediate family of the late jurist, the Warri Traditional Counci of Chiefs, the people of Warri Kingdom and the state judiciary over the incident.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Yomi Odunuga, the Deputy President of the Senate prayed God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest and fortitude for the Rone family to bear the irreparable loss.
“As Customary Court Judge in the Warri Judiciary Council, Chief Rone diligently served the state unblemished and with distinction.
“As a ranking member of the Warri Traditional Council of Chiefs, he served under four traditional rulers in Warri Kingdom, the last being HRH Ogiame Atunwase III.
“His legacy as a judge will be celebrated by present and future generations. A great man, he will be missed by all. May his soul find rest in the bosom of God Almighty”, Omo-Agege said.
