Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have foiled an attempted kidnap by a suspected kidnapper.
Police sources told our correspondent that around 11 am on Thursday, while operatives of the Eagle-Net were on a patrol along Oreorokpe-Sapele Road, they intercepted a commercial minibus for a routine search.
During the search, the operatives reportedly recovered a locally-made single-barrelled gun with five live cartridges concealed in the bag.
The weapon was allegedly found on a 25-year-old man, Diarhe Oghenemarho, of Okpara inland waterway community, Ethiope East Local Government Area.
During preliminary investigation, the suspect was said to have confessed that he belonged to the notorious Eiye Confraternity cult and that his syndicate had been terrorising Warri and Ughelli axis.
He also allegedly confessed to being a member of a robbery/kidnapping gang, and his gang leader was one David Mathew, aka Cucumber.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Bright Edafe, while confirming the incident, disclosed that the suspect and the exhibits were in custody and an investigation was ongoing.
