The Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman has said that all the divisional police headquarters in the country needed to be demolished and rebuilt for effective policing in the country.

At the official commissioning of the newly constructed police force area command in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, the IGP said the Nigeria Police under his watch have constructed 125 modern commands across the country, for effective policing.

He, however, promised to continue improving police welfare and an enabling working environment for effective policing, promoting security, peace and stability in the country.

He said: “The Nigeria Police is a very big family, they are everywhere in the country, therefore we need to take care of ourselves everywhere we are, with the meagre resources the government gives us, we try to improve our welfare by creating a good working environment for ourselves.

“If we had the opportunity, we will continue to improve our working conditions, even the divisional police headquarters are supposed to be demolished and rebuilt because I am sure they are old and outdated in terms of facilities and offices.

“The Force is growing in numbers and strength, the population in the country requires more police officers so that law and order can be maintained.

“We are committed to repositioning the police force with the provision of adequate modern working equipment, welfare and other facilities that will enhance the capacity of officers to tackle any insecurity challenge in the country”.

The IGP then charged the Ringim community to take full ownership of the new headquarters and join hands with the police to protect it and ensure effective utilization.

The state governor, Muhammad Badaru commended the effort of the IGP for the construction of the new area command headquarters and the repositioning of the Police for more security of life and properties in the country.
