The Head of the Federal Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), Joseph Egbunike is dead.
A Deputy Inspector-General of Police, sources said Egbunike slumped in his office in Abuja on Tuesday night.
He is the head of the Special Investigation Panel looking into the alleged money laundering case involving the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari.
The FCIID is widely seen as the most powerful and preoccupied police department.
Egbunike had worked for several years as the Head of the Police Finance Department until he became a DIG in 2020.
