Diri takes oath of office for 2nd term

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has been sworn in for his second term in office.

Both Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, took their oath of office, administered by the state Chief Judge, Justice Matilda Ayemieye, on Wednesday at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Dignitaries that graced the occasion included Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima; former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan; and Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Koung.

Governors in attendance included Engr. Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Barrister Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Mohammed Bago (Niger), Senator Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), AbdulRahman AbdulRazak (Kwara) and Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa).

Other governors included Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Sir Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Pastor Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia (Benue) and Senator Uba Sani (Kaduna).

Former Senate Presidents Bukola Saraki and Adolfus Wabara, who is now Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees as well as other National and state leaders of the party also graced the occasion.

Diri polled a total of 175,196 votes to defeat his main rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress.
