The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Publisher of Eagles Online, Mr Sampson Dotun Oladipo.
Oladipo, who died on Tuesday, was described by the Guild as a gentleman, distinguished journalist and former newspaper editor who made significant contributions to Nigeria’s media industry.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the NGE President, Mr Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Mr Onuoha Ukeh, the Guild said Oladipo’s journalism career, which spanned several decades, was marked by professionalism, courage, intellectual depth and a strong commitment to journalism and nation-building.
The Guild said his contributions had left a lasting mark on the Nigerian media landscape, particularly his efforts towards the growth of online journalism and the country’s evolving digital media space.
It described Oladipo as a committed member of the NGE whose contributions strengthened the professional body and reflected his belief in professional solidarity and the promotion of ethical, credible and responsible journalism.
“Dr Oladipo was not merely a media practitioner but also a respected colleague, mentor and contributor to the continuing evolution of the Nigerian media landscape,” the Guild said.
The NGE said his death represented a significant loss to his family, colleagues, the journalism profession and the wider media community.
According to the Guild, Oladipo leaves behind a legacy of hard work, professional excellence, courage and service that would continue to inspire journalists and others who knew and worked with him.
The Guild extended its condolences to his immediate family, colleagues, friends and associates, while praying for strength and fortitude for the family to bear the loss.
It also prayed that God would grant the deceased journalist eternal rest and that his memory would remain a blessing to those who knew him.
“May Dr Sampson Dotun Oladipo’s memory remain a blessing to those who knew him, and may his contributions to journalism endure,” the Guild said.
