The newly elected National Executive Council of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (NIJAA) on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, in Lagos.
The meeting marked the first formal engagement between the new NIJAA leadership and its alma mater and provided an opportunity to present the Association’s vision for a stronger, more active and impactful alumni body.
The Provost warmly welcomed the new leadership and expressed the Institute’s readiness to work with NIJAA, stressing the enormous expectations attached to having a vibrant Alumni Association.
Among the encouraging developments from the meeting was the Provost’s commitment to look into providing office space for the NIJ Alumni Association to establish its Secretariat within the Institute.
The Registrar Mrs. Patricia Kalesanwo also affirmed the importance of NIJAA’s participation in the governance of the Institute, while the Provost indicated that the outcome of the meeting would form part of his report to the forthcoming Governing Council meeting.
The meeting also highlighted opportunities for stronger collaboration in areas including professional development, mentorship, alumni engagement, institutional support and the mobilisation of NIJ graduates across Nigeria and the Diaspora.
The President, Muyiwa Akintunde, said the new administration was committed to reactivating state chapters, reconnecting with alumni at home and abroad and building a partnership with NIJ that would benefit both the Institute and its graduates.
Today’s engagement marks an important first step in the new NIJAA administration’s commitment to moving the Association from nostalgia to impact and from reunions to results.
