Ekiti State has emerged as one of the three finalists for the 2026 National Pension Award in the category of State of the Year in the Implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
The nomination was formally communicated by the National Pension Commission (PenCom) in an official notification signed by the Acting Director of the Commission’s States Operations Department, Akinsola Adeseun.
According to PenCom, the nomination recognises the Ekiti State Government’s progress in adopting, implementing and sustaining the Contributory Pension Scheme.
The commission said the state’s pension management practices stood out as a model for promoting sustainable pension systems and safeguarding the financial future of retirees.
“This nomination is in recognition of the remarkable strides recorded by the Ekiti State Government in the implementation of the CPS and underscores the Commission’s commitment to fostering pension reforms and promoting a sustainable pension system across the country,” the letter stated.
PenCom disclosed that the winner of the State of the Year award would be announced at the grand award presentation ceremony scheduled for Thursday, 29 October 2026, at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
The nomination represents a significant recognition of Ekiti State’s efforts to strengthen pension administration under Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
The state government has continued to prioritise the remittance of workers’ pension contributions, with the aim of promoting financial security and long-term stability for employees after retirement.
The award nomination also highlights the importance of effective pension management in protecting workers’ entitlements and ensuring that retirees can depend on their pension benefits.
