Former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Lockdown housemate Tochi has advised former contestants facing difficult times to move beyond their celebrity status and focus on work, business and personal growth.
Tochi, who participated in the 2020 edition of the reality show, said appearing on BBNaija did not guarantee financial success and urged former housemates to build their lives beyond their reality television fame.
In an Instagram Story post on Friday, he called on ex-housemates going through challenging periods to abandon what he described as a “celebrity mindset” and concentrate on making a living.
“If you’re a BBNaija ex-housemate and you’re going through a rough time, listen: pack up all that ‘I am a celebrity’ nonsense and lock it inside a box. Come out and hustle, oh, if not you go cry pass newborn baby, oh,” he wrote.
Tochi said he had stopped defining himself primarily as a reality television personality and had instead embraced his identity as a businessman.
“I have even forgotten I went on that show since 2024. I see myself as a businessman now. Destiny differs; not everyone is destined to make it from the show. Keep your head up and live your truth,” he said.
He also encouraged former housemates to surround themselves with people who would encourage and motivate them rather than those who constantly reminded them of their celebrity status.
“Surround yourself with people that support, motivate and encourage you, not people that will use ‘shebi you know you’re now a celeb’ block all your ears,” he said.
According to Tochi, former housemates should ensure that people see them not only as ex-reality TV contestants but also as individuals willing to work and create value.
“When people see you, let them not see you only as an ex-housemate but also a hustler with values trying to make it. Favour always meets a man in motion,” he added.
His comments came days after fellow BBNaija Season 10 housemate Daniel Olatunji, popularly known as Danboskid, spoke publicly about his financial and personal struggles.
In a video shared on Wednesday, Danboskid revealed that he had returned to his family home and was sleeping in his sister’s room while trying to rebuild his life.
He said he planned to produce a film, launch an accessories business and work as an Uber driver as part of efforts to regain financial stability.
The reality star also disclosed that his family was experiencing difficulties, but stressed that he was not seeking public sympathy.
Instead, he said he wanted advice and support as he worked towards rebuilding his life.
