Ex-Ogun governor’s media adviser, Sola Lawal, dies at 61

The immediate past Chairman of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Alhaji Sola Lawal died on Thursday following a brief illness, according to a statement by the families of Ogunyemi and Lawal.

An accomplished journalist, respected politician and astute administrator, Lawal was 61 years old last 5 April.

The Otun-Aare Adeen of the Source at Ile Ife Muslim Community in Ile Ife, Osun State, Lawal was Special Media Adviser to Ogun State Governor (1999-2003), Media Consultant to Ogun State Government (2011-2015) and member of Osun State Capital Development Authority (2012-2016).

He started his journalism career as a reporter/staff writer with Hotline news magazine, Kaduna in 1990, and was promoted Associate Editor in 1992. He later moved to Concord Press of Nigeria, where he was Chief Correspondent, before moving to The Post Express newspaper, Lagos in 1996. He left the organisation in 1999 and later set up his broadcasting outfit, Globe Telly, as the Chief Executive Officer.

He was educated at Ansaru-ud-Deen Primary School, Ile-Ife (1976), Erin Community Grammar School, Erin ljesha, Osun State (1981) and Methodist Teachers College, Sagamu, graduating with Teacher’s Grade II Certificate (1983).

Lawal graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English from the Obafemi Awolowo University, lle-Ife in 1990.

He was the author of the book, The Leaders Tongue: A Compendium of Words of Abraham Adesanya.

He is survived by wives, children, brothers and sisters.
