The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to compensate occupants who legally acquired their land at the site of the recently-demolished airport in a bid to ensure safety at the facility.

The Acting General Manager Public Affairs, Faithful Hope-Ivbaze said Abuja” Yes they will be compensated if the occupants acquired the land legally”.

The Lagos State Building Control Agency in conjunction with FAAN demolished some houses located in Ajao Estate and Shasha areas of the state. They were located close to the Murtala Muhammed Airport.

Chief Executive Officer of Centurion Security and former Commandant, Lagos Airport, Group Captain John Ojikutu expressed concern over the delayed demolition of private buildings within the perimeter fence of the airport.

Ojikutu, who has been vocal about the issue, stated that the airport is surrounded by uncontrolled urban development and complicated road networks, making it vulnerable to security threats.
