The Federal Government has confirmed that 32 people were on board the military aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
According to Keyamo, Air Traffic Controllers had earlier reported the disappearance of the military aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, while it was travelling from Benin, Edo State, to Lagos.
He said the aircraft disappeared from radar at about 9:13am after efforts to establish radio communication with the crew proved unsuccessful.
“Air Traffic Controllers reported the disappearance of a military aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, while en route from Benin to Lagos,” Keyamo said.
He added that the aircraft was subsequently located after it crashed near Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The minister said search and rescue operations had been activated following the incident, with relevant authorities working to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Further details on the identities and condition of those on board were expected as emergency agencies continued their response to the incident.
