The Federal Government has repaired and reopened the section of the Kano-Maiduguri road damaged by floods in August, The Nation reports.
The flood, driven by climate change, had threatened to cause significant hardship for residents and road users in the affected area.
In a statement on Thursday, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Works, Mr. Uchenna Orji, said that, shortly after the flood report, President Bola Tinubu directed immediate intervention to restore hope to the affected area.
This prompted, he said, prompted the visit to the area by the Minister, Senator Dave Umahi, where he initiated emergency response efforts and laid out permanent solutions to address the critical condition of the road.
“Today, the life-threatening problems faced by the people on account of the destroyed road has been solved as the Federal Ministry of Works has fixed the road and opened it for use on an emergency basis pending when final and permanent construction work is completely executed.
“The road was on 12th September 2024 opened for use courtesy of the ingenuity of the Minister of Works”, Orji stated.
