The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, in the last general elections, Mr. Peter Obi has faulted the money allocated to the office of the First Lady by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Obi said the duty of President Tinubu’s wife, Remi, is to take care of her husband because the Office of the First Lady is unconstitutional.

At a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi said money allocated to the Office of the First Lady should be redirected to girl-child education.

According to Obi: “First Lady’s office is not in our Constitution, all the monies allocated to the unconstitutional Office of the First Lady should have been transferred to educating and caring for the girl-child. The First Lady’s job is to look after the husband and work with him to ensure everything works well”.

In the 2023 Supplementary Budget proposed by President Bola Tinubu, N1.5 billion was earmarked for vehicles for the Office of the First Lady, N5 billion on a presidential yacht, and another N12.5 billion on the Presidential Air Fleet.

There were campaigns on social media to stop the National Assembly from approving the Supplementary Budget; however, the bill was given speedy approval.
