Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has urged Nigerians to embrace financial discipline by saving, planning their spending and reinvesting in themselves and their businesses.
Akindele gave the advice in a post shared on her Instagram page, reflecting on her participation in the FIN Tribe Finance Fair 2026.
The actress said the event reinforced a financial principle she also strives to practise, stressing that people should not spend all the money they earn.
“Discipline is key to success in your finances, your career and everything you do,” she wrote.
“Speaking at the FIN Tribe Finance Fair 2026 reminded me of something I also try to practise: you cannot spend everything you earn. As we say, you cannot eat with all ten fingers! You have to save, plan and reinvest in yourself and your work.”
She acknowledged that maintaining financial discipline could be challenging but advised her followers to develop the habit by making deliberate decisions before spending.
According to her, individuals should determine how much of their income they intend to save, reinvest and spend.
“Being disciplined isn’t always easy. Start small: before you spend, decide what you’re saving, what you’re reinvesting and what you can afford to spend. Give your money a purpose, and keep practising that habit,” she added.
Akindele also spoke about her personal approach to money management, admitting that she does not always get things right despite working hard and making efforts to manage her earnings responsibly.
“I’m speaking to myself too. I work hard, and I have to be intentional about managing what I earn. I don’t always get it right, but I keep making the effort,” she stated.
The filmmaker encouraged people who may have made poor financial decisions in the past not to give up, urging them to begin making better choices.
She advised her followers to save, reinvest and spend wisely while balancing their enjoyment of the present with plans for the future.
“Whatever you may have wasted in the past, you can start making better decisions today. It’s time to brace up. Save. Reinvest. Spend wisely. Love yourself enough to think about your future, even as you enjoy the present. This is a reminder for all of us!” she added.
