The Federal University of Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State, has described the news of being ranked as the fourth most sought-after university in Nigeria as a step in the right direction.
It was reported that JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during the board policy meeting on Friday, listed FUOYE alongside the University of Ilorin, the University of Lagos and the Lagos State University as the most-sought universities following an appraisal of its 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations.
Oloyede said the rating followed the high number of applicants to the schools during this year’s UTME application period.
Reacting to the development, FUOYE, in a statement released on Saturday by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Foluso Ogunmodede, said the university had distinguished itself under the watch of the present Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina.
The statement said FUOYE had been competing favourably with the first-generation universities, making it attractive to admission seekers following its stable academic calendar.
The statement added, “In 2021, FUOYE was ranked 5th most sought after university.
“This, it retained until its latest ranking at the weekend by JAMB.
“FUOYE has enjoyed relative peace since the tenure of Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina began.
“This has no doubt helped the fastest-growing university to record a series of academic laurels, including giant strides in sporting activities.
“Besides, the Vice-Chancellor has improved on academically stable calendar through some innovative strategies to promote learning and conducive environment.
“For instance, FUOYE’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Fasina, has ensured e-learning programmes for the institution’s teeming students without losing any academic session as conducted during the Federal Government’s forced elections’ holiday.
“This was, however, proved effective with a view to ensuring VC’s adaptive approach to maintaining smooth running of academic programmes.
“The VC has attributed this year’s FUOYE’s feat to hardworking team coupled with cooperation of members of staff.
“Our target is to become number one most-sought university in Nigeria and one of the best if not number one in the world.
“Our determination is to launch FUOYE on global map and until it happens we would not rest on our oars.”
FUOYE is one of the six federal universities established by the administration of the then President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011.
