Ghana boost 2nd round chances; beat Korea 3-2 in Qatar

The Black Stars of Ghana rose from their 2-3 defeat to Portugal in the opening match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar to be Korea Republic by the same margin on Monday, and improve their chances of qualifying for the last 16.

After the heroics by Morocco on Sunday, who beat Belgium 2-0 on Sunday, African fans had expected Cameroon to triumph over Serbia in the first match of the day. But the Indomitable Lions, who scored first, went on to concede three goals to the Europeans. But two goals late on earned the Cameroonians their first point after two matches.

Ghana scored were two goals ahead by the 34th minute through Mohammed Salisu (24th minute) and Mohammed Kudus (34th minute) and led into the break.

But Gue-Sung Cho cancelled the lead with goals in the 58th and 61st minutes.

Kudus however had the last word with another goal in the 68th minute, which turned out to be the winning goal.

With three points so far, Ghana are now second in Group H, behind Portugal, who have a game in hand against Uruguay later in the day. Uruguay have a point from their goalless result against Korea on Matchday 1.

Ghana’s final group match is against Poland on Friday.
