The Guild of Interfaith Media Practitioners Nigeria (GIMP-Nigeria) has congratulated Mr Muyiwa Akintunde on his election as the National President of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (NIJAA).

Akintunde, who serves as the Vice Chairman of GIMP-Nigeria and Chairman of the guild’s Editorial Board, was described as a media professional whose emergence presents an opportunity to strengthen the alumni association.

In a statement issued on August 24, 2026, and signed by the Chairman of the GIMP-Nigeria Governing Board, Mr Abdulkarim Abdulmalik, the guild said Akintunde’s leadership could help advance professional development, members’ welfare, mentorship and constructive engagement with the media industry.

Abdulmalik commended the new NIJAA president’s four-point agenda, which focuses on Unity and Welfare, Professional Growth and Mentorship, Institutional Support, and Voice and Impact.

He described the agenda as timely and relevant to the continued development of journalism and urged the newly elected leadership to translate its plans into practical programmes that would benefit members and support the Nigerian Institute of Journalism.

The GIMP-Nigeria Governing Board Chairman also said the guild was ready to collaborate with the new NIJAA leadership on initiatives aimed at promoting ethical journalism, peace, interfaith dialogue and national unity.

Abdulmalik wished Akintunde and members of the newly elected National Executive Council a successful and impactful tenure.
