Tears flowed freely in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday as the remains of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, were laid to rest.
An emotional atmosphere enveloped the town as family members, friends, colleagues and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects to the 66-year-old actor.
A video from the funeral procession showed mourners carrying Ogogo’s remains towards his final resting place, where he was buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
One of the most emotional moments came when Ogogo’s close friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, was seen crying uncontrollably as mourners gathered around him and attempted to offer comfort.
The scene reflected the deep sense of loss among the late actor’s colleagues, family members and admirers as they bade him a final farewell.
Several Nollywood stars, including Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Mr Latin and Toyosi Adesanya, were earlier reported to have arrived in Ilaro for the burial.
Ireti Osayemi, Bisi Omo Logbalogba and other colleagues, family members and well-wishers were also present.
Actor Bola Oyin-Adejobi paid tribute to Ogogo ahead of the burial, praying for the late actor to be granted Al-Jannah Firdaus.
The burial came a day after Ogogo’s remains were taken to Ilaro, his hometown, following his death on Sunday.
His passing was announced by veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who disclosed that Ogogo died at about 3pm on Sunday at the age of 66.
Ogogo’s death came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed for medical assistance for their father, who had reportedly been battling stage-four cancer.
The veteran actor was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry and remained one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba cinema. His career spanned more than four decades, during which he featured in hundreds of films and made significant contributions to the growth of the industry.
