Favour Williams, a 12-year-old Junior Secondary School II student of Junior Secondary School, Kurmin Tagwaye ll, in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has reportedly hanged herself.

It was gathered that the student’s body was found hanging from a tree in her father’s farm in Kurmin Tagwaye II, along Wamba road, last week Monday.

Sources in the community alleged that the girl was defiled by her father, Williams Ma’aji.

Thomas Vincent, the youth leader of Kurmin Tagwaye, while confirming the incident, said the girl was seen around the village on the day she died.

But he noted that the circumstances surrounding her death are not clear.

According to him, “the father told us that late Favour was working on the other side of the farm with the mother and after a while, he saw her coming and she greeted him and proceeded to another side of the farm, that she wanted to go and eat groundnuts”.

He added that Ma’aji further explained that on his way home from the farm, “he discovered that his daughter had hanged herself and before he could run and cut the rope she used to hang herself, he discovered she was dead”.

Vincent said the the youths of the community, who were angry at the development, wanted to lynch the girl’s parents.

According to him, the police were invited and the parents were arrested.

While the mother was questioned and let off the hook, the father is still in detention.

He further explained that the girl’s corpse was taken to the General Hospital in Akwanga for autopsy and it was established there was no sign of injury on her body.

The girl has since been buried, Vincent said.

However, the spokesman of the Nasarawa State Police Command, Deputy Superintendent Nansel Ramhan said the matter is under investigation.
