GOCOP names speakers for 8 October conference

As preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify, the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), on Monday, announced that its 2026 conference will focus on the theme, “2027 Elections: Trust, Transparency and Shared Responsibilities”.

According to a statement on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Ms Kemi Yesufu, the panellists will are the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, Dr. Abayomi Shogunle; the Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, Prof. Tayo Popoola, the Creative Director of Gender Agenda, Adaora Sydney-Jack, who is also the Founder of WEWE Network Afrique; and the Executive Director of the International Press Centre, Mr. Lanre Arogundade.

Yesufu said the panellists were selected for their experience in election security, journalism, media development, civic engagement and public communication.

She said the discussion at the Guild’s 10th annual conference, scheduled to hold on Thursday, 8 October 2026 in Lagos.
would examine the responsibilities of electoral institutions, political actors, security agencies, the media and citizens in strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

GOCOP had earlier announced that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Joash Ojo Amupitan, will deliver the keynote address.

A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Dr Olisa Agbakoba, will chair the conference.

The event is scheduled to start at 10 am at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

The annual conference, brings together media executives, policymakers, academics, civil society representatives and other stakeholders to discuss issues of national importance.

GOCOP is a business membership organisation of 127 online publications in Nigeria. Its members are media entrepreneurs who own and operate digital publishing businesses across the country.

It promotes the business and ethics of online publishing, professional standards and the collective interests of its members.

It also works to strengthen the sustainability and credibility of digital journalism in Nigeria.
