Gumel pays tribute to federation presidents, delegates, ex-Sec-Gen for contributions to Nigeria’s Olympic Movement

The recently re-elected President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Gumel has paid glowing tribute to all presidents and delegates for their support for him during the poll.

“You were all wonderful in your resolve to offer me another opportunity at the leadership of our Olympic movement.

“Your profound support will propel me to ensure that every single fellow is carried along. I will only ask you to help in every little way by contributing your quota to the growth and development of our NOC.

”That the congress turned out peaceful is due to your support, for which I thank you all immensely.

“The elections are over. We need together from now on to lift our movement. Let us close ranks as one indivisible Olympic family”, Gumel said.

Meanwhile, the NOC president praised the retiring Secretary General, Mr Olabanji Oladapo, describing him as a “worthy Nigerian Ambassador’’, to the Olympic movement in Nigeria.

“We are already missing your indelible footprints in your work”, Gumel noted in a statement released by the newly elected NOC Public Relations Officer, Mr Tony Nezianya.

According to the statement, Gumel said that Oladapo was a loyal officer who knew how to navigate through the many challenging situations with the International Olympic Committee.

“Oladapo deserves to share in the glory for sterling contributions for hhonorsbrought in through athletics via top athletes at the World Championships; the likes of Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume.

“He wrote and followed up on the requests for the scholarships through the Olympic solidarity and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa in the eventual release of the crucial funding that he helped to set them in the mood for the attainment of their dreams.
