The Kano State Hisbah Board has warned members of the public against paying money to individuals claiming to facilitate registration for the state’s forthcoming mass wedding programme.
The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr Mujahideen Aminuddeen, issued the warning on Wednesday in Kano following reports that some individuals had been demanding money from prospective beneficiaries.
Aminuddeen said the programme was fully funded by the Kano State Government, with Governor Abba Yusuf approving sponsorship covering wedding attire, furniture, transportation of the furniture and start-up capital for beneficiaries.
He stressed that no official of the Hisbah Board or representative of the state government had been authorised to collect money from anyone seeking to participate in the programme.
The deputy commander-general urged members of the public who are approached by anyone demanding payment to report the matter immediately to the Hisbah Board or relevant security agencies for investigation and appropriate action.
“The governor has paid for everything. Nobody should pay for anything because the entire programme is completely free,” he said.
The board advised prospective beneficiaries to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraudsters seeking to exploit the mass wedding initiative.
