Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has announced the rescue of a woman and her young son who were abducted in Igbope, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Igboho, founder of the Iru Ekun Security Network, said the victims, identified as Adijat Kubura Aliqlas and her son, Abdulmalik, were rescued during a joint operation involving his security outfit and operatives of the Nigeria Police Force’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
According to a statement issued by his media office on Saturday, the rescue followed a three-day intelligence-led operation in which security operatives tracked the suspected kidnappers to a forest in Kwara State. The statement said the suspects were lured into collecting a ransom before security personnel launched an attack.
Igboho said the operation resulted in a fierce exchange of gunfire, forcing the kidnappers to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds while abandoning their captives.
“My team and I, alongside ASP Amos Ajegoke and other police officers, spent several days tracking the kidnappers’ movements. Around midnight on Saturday, they arrived to collect the agreed ransom, but we ambushed them and engaged them in a gun battle,” he said.
He added that the rescue team later heard the victims calling for help and located them in the forest.
According to the statement, the rescued woman and her son were taken to Igboho General Hospital for medical treatment following the operation.
Igboho also acknowledged the support of the Inspector-General of Police, saying the success of the operation was made possible through coordination with police authorities in Kwara and Niger states.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to protect lives and property across Oke-Ogun and Oyo State, while urging residents to continue cooperating with security agencies in tackling criminal activities.
The activist also advised Nigerians against spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic, stressing the importance of relying on credible updates during security operations.
