The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that police personnel will maintain professionalism before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
Disu said the conduct of officers during the polls would make Nigerians proud of the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP gave the assurance while speaking with journalists after the launch of The Origin of Women in Nigeria Police Force, a book written by 96-year-old Dame Stella Okuyiga, a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police and one of the first 20 female officers recruited into the force.
Responding to questions about the police preparedness for the 2027 elections, Disu disclosed that the force had held a conference with commissioners of police and other senior officers across the country to review previous electoral experiences and improve operational performance.
“I want to let you know that we just finished a conference of all commissioners of police and other senior officers. We have had two or three elections recently, and you can see the police did very well, and we did too.
“We have now brought all these experiences together, where we did well and where we did not do well, so that we can perform better in this big election that everybody is looking up to,” he said.
The police chief reiterated his confidence in the force’s ability to deliver a professional performance during the forthcoming elections.
“I give you my word. Nigeria Police will do so well, and we will make Nigeria Police so proud, and we will make Nigerians proud,” Disu said.
His assurance comes as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 general elections, with security agencies expected to play a key role in maintaining order, protecting voters and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
