President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending four weeks in Europe on a working vacation, assuring Nigerians that he is healthy and ready to resume his duties.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday evening after departing Paris, France, where he spent the latter part of his stay abroad. His aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 6.22pm.
Speaking to journalists after his arrival, the President dismissed concerns about his health and said he was ready to continue with his official responsibilities.
“Rumour will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for a three-week working vacation, travelling first to London before proceeding to Paris. The Presidency later announced that his stay would be extended by a few days.
During his time abroad, the Presidency maintained that Tinubu remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued to direct government affairs. Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented him at several official engagements, including the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
While in France, Tinubu met French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré. He also held engagements with business leaders, including FirstHoldCo Chairman Femi Otedola.
The Presidency also linked his stay in France to discussions around investment projects, including the proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port in Ogun State.
Tinubu has returned to Lagos ahead of the October 1 Independence anniversary. According to the Presidency, he is expected to hold meetings with political leaders and associates in the state over the coming days and attend the premiere of a film commemorating the late MKO Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Lagos on Independence Day.
The President is expected to return to Abuja after his engagements in Lagos.
