The Oyo State Government has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, a work-free day to commemorate this year’s Isese Day celebration.
The declaration was approved by the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, to enable residents to mark the traditional festival.
The Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, announced the decision in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday by Abiodun Atilola, Media Officer to the SSG/Head of Service.
According to the statement, the governor urged residents to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and stability in Oyo State and Nigeria.
“The Oyo State Governor, His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, has graciously declared Thursday, 20th August, 2026, a work-free day to mark Isese Day celebration in Oyo State,” the statement read.
It added: “His Excellency has therefore requested that the occasion be used to pray for the peace, unity and stability of the state in particular and the country in general.”
Isese Day is observed by adherents of the Yoruba traditional religion as an occasion to celebrate Yoruba cultural heritage, offer prayers and seek blessings for individuals, communities and the wider society.
