Food critic Opeyemi Famakin has warned Nigerians against purchasing “high-end” body mists from unverified vendors, raising concerns about the authenticity and potential safety of some products being sold at unusually low prices.
Famakin, in a social media post, urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing popular celebrity-branded body mists, particularly those being sold for significantly less than their usual prices.
He questioned how products that reportedly cost as much as ₦40,000 could be sold for around ₦4,000 in Nigeria, warning consumers not to assume that a low price automatically represents a bargain.
The food critic also cautioned that some sellers could attempt to convince customers that counterfeit or questionable products are genuine, while others might deliberately inflate their prices to make them appear authentic.
Famakin advised Nigerians who wish to purchase such products to patronise only trusted and verified retailers.
He added that while he regularly recommends products to his followers, he would also continue to raise awareness about products he believes could pose potential health risks.
According to him, consumers should prioritise their safety and verify the source and authenticity of personal-care products before purchasing them.
